Bands appearing on No ReWind (August of...):
Guapo - Late Night Foreign Radio - Aether Flux - Black Sun - Death Cat - Servo - Neck Dopppler

From their beginnings in 1994 as an experimental post-hardcore trio, Guapo have developed their sound over the course of many records and tours to encompass avant-rock, electronics, folk melodies and jump-cut polyrhythmic precision. The fourth Guapo CD, "Great Sage, Equal of Heaven" (released spring 2001) sees the core duo of Matt Thompson and Dave Smith taking on board Krautrock, Japanese ethnic music and freeform improvisation, with guest musicians Caroline Kraabel and John Edwards.

Guapo's latest release. Matt Thompson: Bass, electronics, guitar; Dave Smith: Drums, percussions; with guest appearances from Caroline Kraabel on sax and John Edwards on double-bass. Incorporating elements of avant-rock, electronics, folk & noise, the musical structures are intricate and harmonically complex while still retaining a hypnotic rhythmic sensibility. East european-derived melodies and Moog experimentation are also absorbed into the sound, creating a rich and densely textured music with few antecedents.

Guapo's third album, a CD of hyper-energetic improvised collaborations with japanese legend Ruins and london-based improv duo Shock Exchange. Temporarily unavailable.

Second full-length album from Guapo : "Hirohito". An entertaining melange of noise, improv., electronics, prog., opera and sample viruses, utilising sax, CD player, metal, etc... The plunderphonic approach to songwriting recontextualises sample sources such as Japanese folksongs, sound effects records and the Chinese national anthem, creating absurdist Noise Operettas out of aural detritus. The cut-and-paste collage aesthetics of John Cage / Negativland / John Zorn rubbing up against the base stupidity of Black Sabbath.
Late Night Foreign Radio are taking a break during the absence of their bass player. You can still catch Michael kasparis in various other projects he contributes to in Glasgow (playing with George Burt, V-Twin, and more...)

They are the scapegoats of the compilation. Their contribution is an old-ish previously unreleased track which even include vocals by Matthew... collector item !
Despite the fact that they seem to be carrying a hex with them, we might be releasing more material with them soon...
They have also relaunched their website www.aetherflux.com where you can download tracks from their latest ep "Don't Do Kidz Drugs".

Formed by Russell McEwan as a musical project which involved visual elements: "My main collaborator is film-maker, artist, and wife Louise Brown. David Flynn, comedy writer and area manager, has also collaborated on and off for some years. Ex-'macocosmicans' Brendan and Cerwyss O'Hare appeared with Black Sun's early gigs. Phase 2 Black Sun saw the involvement of Luke Fowler ( Frances Lengel ) and Paul Daniels of 'Dissolved'. The most recent member is guitarist Kevin Hare.
As a kid I listened to Joy Division religiously. I've always been a drummer and I approach other instruments and vocals with this in mind. I can handle excessive loops and repetition because of the nature of rhythm. When at Glasgow School Of Art, I began to produce looping soundtracks for durational installation performances with "endless cassettes" first then moving on to PC-based wave editors and sequencer programs. I'm searching for heaviness of lyric, bass, guitar, drums, rhythm, image. Sometimes loud and then other times quiet.

They are an obscure combo delivering scattered improvised performances. One of them appears in full (20 minutes!) on "No Rewind" (August of...).
The Theme from Death Cat, another - much shorter - track is the opening track for the lastest No ReWind compilation.
Contact: are you sure you really want to contact Death Cat ? You could always try and shout loud enough whenever the wind is blowing westward...

Servo are from Montpellier, France (and have nothing to do with the English band of the same name). They released a well acclaimed first album in France in 1998, and after a few line-up changes, came back for their "second round" last year - after gratifying us with a few new tracks appearing on a promo ep and organizing a European tour last Autumn, they are now back home preparing their second full-length - and drinking and sleeping of course!

After the temporary dissolution of Eye and Ear Control, Neck Doppler felt compelled to dig deep inside of himself in search of any singular creative impulses that may exist in the gut swirl of inner unsteadiness, and, lo and behold, he did in fact discover a maelstrom of chaotic, unexpressed tensions and devices just waiting to be wrenched from the heat. One of the resulting fluid interpretations of these impulses can be found wandering "No Rewind". The rest appear on his stunning debut album for the Consume label called 'Future Hits Vol. 1' (Con 005) - an exploration of post alcoholic tension, the soul and snooker. As the mighty Neck himself says - "you better listen!".
Find out more at www.consume.freeserve.co.uk, you can also download mp3s from his album there, but please bear in mind he's only just the oddball on "No Rewind" and is in no case representative of mrw44 !
