Black Sun
Formed by Russell McEwan as a musical project which involved visual elements: "My main collaborator is film-maker, artist, and wife Louise Brown. David Flynn, comedy writer and area manager, has also collaborated on and off for some years. Ex-'macocosmicans' Brendan and Cerwyss O'Hare appeared with Black Sun's early gigs. Phase 2 Black Sun saw the involvement of Luke Fowler ( Frances Lengel ) and Paul Daniels of 'Dissolved'. The most recent member is guitarist Kevin Hare.
As a kid I listened to Joy Division religiously. I've always been a drummer and I approach other instruments and vocals with this in mind. I can handle excessive loops and repetition because of the nature of rhythm. When at Glasgow School Of Art, I began to produce looping soundtracks for durational installation performances with "endless cassettes" first then moving on to PC-based wave editors and sequencer programs. I'm searching for heaviness of lyric, bass, guitar, drums, rhythm, image. Sometimes loud and then other times quiet.
