Milgram

The group started in 1997 with drums, 2 basses and guitar.

A first album -Vierhundertfunfzig Volts- was recorded in sept.1998 by Fred Norguet and released in 1999 on Pandemonium records. They went on tour around Europe (England-Ireland Dec.1999) (Switzerland-Austria-Slovenia-Italy-France-Spain Mar-Apr.2000) a long time ago...

A second album - Subversion Standard - was released on Red F records (home to the Redneck Manifesto) in September 2002. Recorded by Greg Teurtri in December 2000 and mixed by Fred Norguet again in April 2001.

After the departure of one member, the band has been playing as a trio since November 2001: Nicolas, Jeremie and Frederic, in a basic formation (but none the less efficient) drums, bass, guitar.

All the former songs having been left for post-mortem fame, they are now working on a brand new and exceptional set of instrumental songs, and should re-pop in your tree-houses, kitchens and clubs pretty soon. Don't miss them, you really could not forgive it to yourself!

Milgram's second album, on Red F Records. Looped, Slint-esque, Albini flavoured, experimental - what better references for a band. Recorded when they were still four (guitar, drums and 2 basses), this album is a pretty diverse affair - from loud and heavy to quiet and calm with some looped violin thrown in along the way. Anyone who knows the Pandemonium sound (Condense, Hint etc.) will have an idea what to expect. One of those albums that gets better every time you listen to it.

Polaris

The line up is:

They have played all over England, Ireland, Scotland and mainland Europe. These days they tend to play less often due to band members other commitments.

Polaris members also play/ have played in numerous other bands such as HiM, Bilge Pump, Red Monkey, Casino Volante, Snail Racing...

March of Dimes

March of Dimes has been playing about for the best part of two years now. Starting off as just Scott on guitar now more recently incorporating drums for a more military feel.

The tracks recorded for the comp. were done minus drums the day before mother's day (when he really probably should have been buying flowers) in ailidh's bedroom on the papa's computer. These songs are relatively new and were recorded using a takamine electro-acoustic through a fender with a mild gain. Wood was thumped, feet were stomped, keys were a' jangled and the papa's hands clapped themselves raw. Thankfully the recordings have spared the listener the agony of the tuning breaks that punctuate the gigs.

Hopefully there will be more material available soon. There is more to March than just these two tracks. Scott and David also play guitar and drums in Sons and Daughters.

Serious Naan

Serious Naan mania is fast sweeping Britain. Already sales are outperforming all other sectors in the serious foods market and Serious Naan are fast establishing themselves as the new heros of speciality bread. "A few years ago, it was impossible to find Serious Naan bread served fresh from the tandoor outside of the Indian restaurant or takeaway. We recognised the enormous potential early on and have worked with our beloved consumers to develop restaurant-quality Serious Naans that can be served at the consumers inconvenience", says Dr James Tresnac, CONSUME's joint managing director and Naan specialist. "We haven't stopped there. Whilst the obvious flavours take a lead from restaurants - Plain, Garlic & Coriander and Peshwari - we have developed a whole host of innovative recipe ideas, sound manipulation techniques and convenient snacking formats to take Serious Naan into the Millennium." "Naantastic" as they say!

The fantastically confused debut album by Serious Naan 'Naantrax' (CONSUME 06) is now available in takeaway format for tasting. See Consume website for details.

"Serious Naan is also a duo, this time Lonny Bashee and The Stare and is something different. Distorted, vocoded voices, piano, organ, drum machines. Sometimes inspired by The Residents, but at others maybe by ambient music, but then played with a sense of naivety (as in 'Random Dancer'). Serious Naan move around in many styles, but they have changed it, so that every track is their own and not a derivat of something else or a hotchpotch of styles. Nice stuff here, and an altogether varied release." FdW, Vital Weekly.

Opaque

A Lancaster-based 3 piece band (guitar/drums/bass) who improvise, swapping instruments as and when they feel like it. Their music is dark and intense based around repeated phrases / loops which grow and evolve, usually culminating in a high volume wall of sound.

Aside from several singles, eps and albums released on small labels all around the world, they were also selected by Fat Cat to appear on their "No Watches No Maps" compilation - and by mrw44 to appear on "No ReWind"...

some of what was said about their previous releases:

"Now I don't know if their intention was to drive the listener over the edge but we do think this release should come with some kind of health warning. Do not operate machinery whilst listening to Opaque, do not try and do anything because they're pushing you right to the edge with their high pitched minimalist repetitive scratchy drone and riff cycles that slowly builds up in to delicate plate smashing rage music. Sparse post-art instrumental guitar sound sculpture that's not far off musical water torture. They manage to jar so much with so few sounds. There's an Eastern flavour as that bass drones underneath guitars that sound like mechanical wind chimes and really I don't think I can go through the whole thing again, it's like finger nails on a blackboard, they almost defy you to keep listening... enough! Turn it off!!! An excellent single." Organ magazine about "Temporary Lifestyle"

"The kind of thing you'd expect to find accompanying black and white film footage projected onto a demolition site in downtown Dresden as part of some art installation or other, Opaque's two improvised tracks beguile with a mixture of Warser Gate's quieter guitar scrapings and Ochre records' knack for spinning meaning out of no sound whatsoever" Robots and Electronic Brains about "Temporary Lifestyle".

Death Cat

They are an obscure combo delivering scattered improvised performances. One of them appears in full (20 minutes!) on "No Rewind" (August of...).

The Theme from Death Cat, another - much shorter - track is the opening track for the lastest No ReWind compilation.

Contact: are you sure you really want to contact Death Cat ? You could always try and shout loud enough whenever the wind is blowing westward...
